QURAN STUDIES
KIDS ACADEMY | QURAN STUDIES
During these sessions, we focus on analysing the Qur’an in English to develop literal and inferential comprehension, critical reading, evaluation of choice of vocabulary, grammatical and structural features, the ability to produce clear and coherent essays and to write effectively.
These are transferable skills and benefit all essay based subjects, such as English.

KEY STAGE 1-2
For KS1 and KS2 students, the Qur’an studies curriculum focuses on a specific prophetic story. The prophet’s story chosen changes every few terms, and we read suras about Prophets Joseph, Moses, Noah, Jesus, Abraham peace be upon them all.
The focus of the sessions is helping students develop their critical thinking and text analysis skills from an early stage. The end of term exam consists of short answer responses to a set a text. See below for a sample exam paper.
GCSEs
At KS3 and KS4 level, students partake in linguistic analysis of Professor Abdel Haleem’s translation of The Qur’an.
In order to test critical engagement with the text, the children in KS3 and KS4 are assessed in an essay format with detailed feedback. This helps students not only in their Qur’an Studies, but also enhances their analytical and written abilities to aid them in other essay based subjects. See below for a sample exam paper.
END OF TERM EXAMS
At the end of every term we set an exam, and all students are expected to sit these in full exam conditions. This allows the students to improve their exam techniques, learn the importance of time keeping and it also provides the teachers with the opportunity to identify areas of weakness and provide feedback.
