JOSEPH (Q. 12)

‘There are lessons in the story of Joseph and his brothers for all who seek them’ (Q. 12:7)

This year’s Q-Club will cover Joseph (Q. 12). We will undertake a guided read and analyse all 111 verses narrating the story of Joseph, son of Jacob (peace be upon them), both prophets in Islam, and his brothers.

In addition to acquiring an in-depth knowledge of Joseph’s story, we hope to discern some of the fundamental themes of this sura and the Qur’an more widely, such as family relationships, power, self-delusion and betrayal. The sura demonstrates that blessings can be tests, sincere intentions cannot compensate for iniquitous actions and that forgiveness and redemption are always possible.

ATTENDANCE

WATERSTONES | TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD, LONDON

7pm-8.30pm. Queue opens at 6.30pm.

1. Reserve a chair: £7 (online), includes a hot drink from the café in the basement. This must be done online on the Waterstones webpage (Click Here | Waterstones) before the session. Your chair will only be reserved until 6.50pm, after which it will be reallocated. Please note that there are no refunds for no-shows or late comers. Limited spaces are available.

2. Turn up on the day: £4 (on entry), includes a hot drink from the café in the basement. If you haven’t reserved a chair (or they are sold out), you can, capacity permitting, turn up on the day for a sitting on the floor or standing space. As spaces are limited, these will be allocated on a first-come basis.
